This Federated Experience Platform offers a lot of advantages. Not only does it minimize the learning curve for content contributors as they can centrally manage all content regardless of the underlying system, but it also allows you to learn more about your customers while collecting user data and enriching the central Sitecore Experience Database (xDB). This xDB is the basis for personalizing the experience of visitors -- even on the legacy platforms -- and on top of that the Sitecore multivariate testing guarantees optimal conversions.
Also for the marketeer, a single registration and scanning of the legacy website is enough to enable the experience platform. Once this has been done, the legacy website structure is accessible and its pages can be managed by the well-known page editor interface of Sitecore and it opens up all standard features that are available on native Sitecore websites (personalized content for different persona’s, A/B testing, analytics, etc…)
In short, this new capability of Sitecore will accelerate the introduction of a consistent experience across all channels and is ideal in the following scenarios:
